A lot of people think of a crankbait as a dummy bait. To the casual fisherman it may seem like all you need to do to fish a crankbait is tie one on and throw it out there. While you can probably catch some fish here and there with that mentality, there are a couple of tips that I can give you that have helped me take my crankbait fishing to the next level.
After getting off the water I had the chance to kick it with Terry and ask him a couple of questions. I asked Terry what are his favorite baits and he said that he relies on Yum soft plastics, Bomber crank baits, and Excaliber stick baits for a great deal of his fishing. The reason he likes these baits is that they catch a lot of fish and are not a fad lure…they have been around for a long time and continue to catch a lot of fish. I asked Terry what his favorite style of fishing is and he said that he feels the most comfortable flipping, pitching jigs or soft plastics while mixing in some crank baits and stick baits.
Terry has fish a variety of different lakes but he likes Truman Lake the best. Terry likes Truman because he says on any given day you can go out and catch an 18lb stringer. He also feels that he understands how the current can affect the bass an where to look for them. His second favorite lake to fish is Pomme de Terre because he says you can always catch a lot of fish while also being able to catch quality fish at the same time.
In this video I show some modifications that john crews showed me the other day to help with my hook up rate and some other little tips as well.
