Catching bass is definitely an art and with the help of Naked Bait Company you can spice up your jigs and spinnerbaits to catch a lot more bass. It often pays to modify your baits as the conditions change and with the Naked Bait Company Skirt expander you can make the necessary changes to your spinnerbait or jig skirt in a matter of minutes. Sometimes I want my jigs to move more water so I will build a thicker skirt other Continue reading ‘Color-fy the Water’

Just got back from fishing the BFL Regional at DeGray Lake Arkansas. The bite was really tough. The first day of the tournament we got somewhere around 4 to 5 inches of rain. It poured on us the entire day. I drew out a local guy Joey Brannon. When our number was called we blasted off to a couple of his deep water spots. We were fishing brushpiles in 30 to 40 feet of water. The first spot we stopped on didn’t produce. It was suppose to be his best spot too which had us a little worried. We fished the back of the creek really quick and I caught two 15 and a half inch bass on a smack tackle gizz 3 that I had to throw back. DeGray Lake has a slot on 13 to 16 inch largemouth. The second set of deep piles we pulled up on though produced a nice 13 inch kentucky for me on an green pumpkin purple glitter finnese worm on an OMEGA Savior Shakeyhead. I was throwing this bait on a 9lb GAMMA prototype fluorocarbon line that hasn’t come out yet. Continue reading ‘BFL Regional DeGray Lake Arkansas’
When it comes to fall fishing the bass are usually looking up and chasing bait. A great way to imitate the bait fish and put more bass in the boat is to tie on a soft plastic jerkbait. A soft plastic jerkbait is great for covering a lot of water. You can work the bait really fast to make it dip and dart which is great for triggering reaction strikes. You can also slow your retrieve down if the fish are inactive. The versatility of a soft plastic jerkbait along with its amazing action make it such a fish producer. Continue reading ‘The Fall Fluke’
Got out on Thousand Hills Lake this afternoon at about 5:30pm with local gun Tony Lain. While I was waiting for Tony to show up at the ramp I whacked a 2lber on a swim jig right off the ramp and a couple of shorts which made me think that the bite would be on up in the shallows. When I got in the boat we started out fishing some shallow spots on the main lake. I caught a couple of fish throwing a white OMEGA Revelation Swim Jig on 20lb GAMMA High Performance Co-Polymer line when we were fishing shallow. Whenever your throwing a swim jig you want to try and use the heaviest line you can get away with because the fish can’t see it anyways. I was reeling the jig back just under the surface giving it a lot of twitches. I had a big white paca chunk as my trailer. Despite the lake really cooling off the fish did not seem to be in a positive mood. Just the other day I whacked a couple on a buzzbait but the cool rain must have thrown that bite off because we couldn’t buy a strike on a topwater bait. We worked our way around the lake up shallow and didn’t have but a couple of fat short fish to show for it. You would think with 59 degree water temp, some rain, and wind the fish would be on the prowl in the backs of the creeks but it did not seem to be the case. After fishing a couple of the creek banks we moved out off the bank and saw a bunch of bait and what looked like bass but we did not connect with any. We tossed a couple of crankbaits, jigs, spinnerbaits, without any luck. Continue reading ‘Cold and Wet’

Just got back from competing in the FLW National Guard College fishing tournament at Lake of the Ozarks. The Lake had a lot of fishing pressure with the Stren Series and the Big Bass Bash being held over the weekend. The fishing was pretty tough. We launched at about 7:45 am and we ran to a couple of spots in the morning and we didn’t have a whole lot of luck. The topwater bite seemed to be almost non existent. We finally found some fish around 10:30 in a wind blown creek. The first keeper fish I hooked up on came on a shallow running Smack Tackle Gizz 3 in green pearl. The fish didn’t get hooked up good and it managed to pull off.  It wasn’t too long until I hooked up with another keeper spot and this time I got him in the boat. My partner Mike was throwing a 10 inch worm out the back of the boat and he caught a two pounder just working it through some brush on a dock. Minutes later Mike hooked into what appeared to be a keeper largemouth that was able to get off. As we made our way out of the creek I was able to connect with a nice keeper that went about 17 inches on the Gizz 3 just burning it down the side of a shady dock.
